The old saying that having a child is like “a piece of your heart walking around outside of your body” rings true for parents worldwide. Unless our children are happily in our presence, we can never fully relax. Each time they leave for school, a friend’s house or outside activity, our gut feeling of “what if?” kicks in, leaving us on edge until they safely return home.
“FAST Defense”, led by Bill Kip, internationally acclaimed self-defense expert, is the premiere self-defense and assertiveness-training program in America. Their spectacular courses offer “insurance” for our children’s safety and well-being.
They will be conducting the fun and lively “FAST C.A.T.S. (Children’s Assertiveness Training Series) Class” to kids aged 6-12 on October 26th at Vision Quest IBBA Karate, 400 South Boulder Road, Lafayette, CO 80026.
From 5:30-8:00pm, kids will learn, in a positive environment, about “hot zones” where inappropriate and often violent behavior can occur and how they can manage various difficult situations. They will learn how to deal with bullies, how to handle name-calling, what to do when personal space is violated and how to set boundaries against inappropriate touch or attention. Kids will also learn about stranger danger, how to deal with getting lost, and home safety skills. Basic abduction awareness skills, like detecting and avoiding abduction and how to break away and escape the grasp of a dangerous person are also taught.
What better gift to give our children than the feeling of empowerment, the ability to project personal confidence, and the knowledge of how not to be a victim? And what better gift to give ourselves than the knowledge that we are sending our children—these pieces of our hearts–out into the big world prepared for whatever may come their way?
